VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Work Study
The work study program is designed to assist
students in identifying and developing their
vocational skills in order to prepare them for
employment after high school. Students who
participate in the program are able to earn money,
while they obtain work experience and explore their
occupational interests.
LAS work study programs are
designed to fit the individual needs of each
student. They can occur on or off of school
grounds, during the school day or after school.
Students employed in the
on-grounds work study program complete tasks such as
cooking, cafeteria work, building maintenance,
office support, and teacher assistance. Off-grounds
work study programs have been designed in the fields
of automotives, construction trades, restaurant
work, animal care, and retail (including
electronics, furniture stores, nurseries, and pet
stores).
Motor Sports Program

The LAS motorsports program, run by a school
psychologist with a degree in automotive
technology, allows students to explore their
interests in careers related to motorsports,
mechanics, and metal fabrication. Students
get to learn in a fully equipped machine
shop with a metal fabrication area. The
shop houses over 25 racing vehicles, ranging
from motorcycles to dragsters.
Vocational Technical
Schools
LAS students can attend shared-time programs at
vocational-technical schools. In the past,
shared-time programs have been implemented with
Morris and Sussex technical schools. LAS will
initiate the application process at the request of
the student and his or her parents/guardians and
child study team.
