Counseling is an important
part of an LAS education, providing students with
the opportunity to address issues of importance to
them.
LAS’s two certified,
doctoral-level school psychologists offer individual
and group psychotherapy to students. Students are
scheduled to receive one 30-minute individual
therapy session each week. They can request
additional meetings as needed. The psychologists
also lead several peer support groups, where
students meet weekly for 30 minutes to discuss a
variety of life issues with their peers.
Additionally, when appropriate, psychotherapy
services are made available to parents/guardians and
families. The school psychologists maintain the
confidentiality of individual, group,
parent/guardian, and family therapy sessions.
LAS is staffed with a
certified substance abuse counselor who consults
with the school administrators and staff, performs
drug and alcohol evaluations, meets regularly with
students when appropriate, and provides education
about the dangers of drugs and alcohol to students.
The school’s certified school
social worker provides additional support to
students and outreach to families.
LAS can arrange to have
students who require speech and language therapy,
occupational therapy, or other specialized services
to receive them as part of their school programs.
