
LAS offers a wide range of
classes to students depending on their educational
needs. Students are placed in classes based upon
their academic, social, and emotional functioning.
Each classroom is staffed with a highly qualified
special education teacher and an instructional
aide. Academic instruction incorporates
state-mandated Core Curriculum Content Standards.
Programs vary from an emphasis on remedial and daily
living skills to preparation for college.
LAS offers all required
academic classes including: English, literature,
mathematics, science, social studies, spelling, art,
physical education, and health. A certified Wilson
Reading specialist is available to help students who
need extra reading support.
LAS also offers a number of
minor academic classes. These classes vary from
year to year, based on student interest. Classes
include: music, instrumental instruction, public
speaking, creative writing, newsletter/yearbook,
community outreach, community art, sociology, brain
teasers, psychology, critical thinking, photography,
woodshop, basic computers, web design, architectural
design, life skills, sports theory, current events,
world cultures, gardening, and construction
techniques.
Additionally, LAS provides
driver’s education for eligible students, helping
them prepare for their computerized driving tests.
