For some students, LAS’s
regular day program may not adequately meet their
needs. Therefore, the school offers two alternative
programs: the after-school program and the
shared-time program.
After-School Program
The after-school program runs
from 2:10pm to 4:15pm Monday through Thursday and
1:40pm to 3:40pm on Friday.
This program is designed for students who are unable
to be maintained in a day program – either in a
public school setting or at LAS – due to their
psychological, emotional, and behavioral needs. In
this shortened-day program, students receive both
academic classes and counseling services. Classes
feature individual instruction. The after-school
program is often employed as a temporary option,
allowing students to demonstrate appropriate school
behavior and transition back to their day programs
(either LAS or public school).
Shared-Time Program
In the shared-time program,
students spend part of each school day in their
public school and the rest of the day at LAS. Each
student’s shared-time program is designed to meet
his or her unique needs. Some students might
benefit from taking their academic classes at public
school and their elective classes at LAS; other
students might benefit from attending academic
classes at LAS and elective classes at public
school; and still others might be best suited for
some combination of the two. Additionally, work
study experiences may still be available to students
in the shared-time program. In many cases, LAS
provides transportation during the school day for
students in the shared-time program.
